2412
performances that span twenty four hoursABOUT THE 2412 PERFORMANCE PROJECT
2412 is a project that engages artists in 24-hour performances. These works consider the importance of endurance, ritual, repetition, reverberation to creative practice for both artists and audiences alike. Viewers are invited to watch the performances live or online through a live broadcast.
We inaugurate 2412 with artist Nicole Vlado who will present dive: how to make one many beginning Friday, February 5th at 8pm (2102B Greenwood Avenue, Austin, TX). Vlado’s work speaks about the relationship of bodies to architecture, bodies as architecture. She creates molds from plaster, cement, rubber, wax, recording the spaces of/between/about: hand against breast, face to wall, arms to thighs. Her work speaks to fundamental questions about how to document interstices, how to visualize the crossroads, the between, the becoming or the pause. What does years of sitting on a front stoop look like? How to remember the way we hold our own bodies, or how a hand fits in a pocket? Vlado’s work gives form to the negative space, creating an archive of place and presence.
She often speaks about place as witness. And witnesses are place. If a site sees us and remembers, then how do we record that interaction? And what is the physical evidence of our presence, of what and where we touch, smell, embrace, hold, pass by, linger? As with any public gathering or collective action, this new performance by Vlado requires both audience and artist to push, stretch, extend and witness.
We invite you to join us beginning Friday, February 5th at 8pm (2102B Greenwood Avenue, Austin, TX). Performance continues until Saturday, February 6th at 8pm.
